Fortress Brüggen

The first documented mention of the Fortress Brüggen and its mill dates back to Christmas Eve in the year 1289. In the mid-14th century, the castle was expanded into a fortress with four towers, and the buildings between the towers were extended to their current height in the 17th century. From 1494, Fortress Brüggen remained the northernmost border fortress of the Duchy of Jülich until 1794. It was privatised by the French government in 1801 and is still privately owned today.
